SKILLZBOARD: CLIMBING IMPROV: IMPROVISED ASCENT & DESCENT SYSTEMS

with Gokul Gopal: What do you do when things go wrong and you have to ascend a rope or descend a route to deal with the situation? What if you don't have a pair of ascenders, or you've dropped your belay/rappel device, or you are on a bolted route and you don't even have a pair of slings or prusik cord, or maybe all the gear is with your partner? Can you improvise an ascent/descent system with whatever is on your harness? This hands-on clinic will go over different solutions for scenarios, comparing pros and cons, and give you guidance and time to practice a number of improvised solutions. Skill level: Outdoor climbing and rappelling experience! Bring a harness and personal gear; (optional): Gri-gri, guide mode device, prusik cord/hollow block, single and double length alpine draws, quick draws, some locking carabiners. 8 ppl max; FREE with festival ticket.
